What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is the process of inserting needles into specific trigger points to target problems in muscle. These points are called myofascial trigger points and are the cause of muscle pain and discomfort. It is quite similar to traditional acupuncture.
How Does Dry Needling Work?
The needles are inserted into the skin at certain points and will cause a twitch or small spasm. This indicates to the physical therapist that the needle is in the correct location and is working. The needle starts to stimulate blood flow to the muscle and adjoining nerves. This causes the muscles to relax and starts to relief the pain.
Electro Dry Needling
By adding a small electrical charge through the needles (electrodryneedling) makes the function faster and better. This electrical stimulation increases blood-flow and aids recovery to damaged muscles.
Needling can be used in conjunction with Physio, Deep Tissue Massage and spinal adjustment to help increase the recovery time to muscle and relieve pain.
